I always had a creative soul and did a lot of drawing growing up, but it never crossed my mind to pursue art professionally. I was made to believe—as a lot of people are in my opinion—that I must choose a practical, well-earning career path, get a real job and make something out of myself.
Well, I followed the sensible path for many years, but it never felt right, there was always something pulling me another way. So I changed universities, careers, even countries, trying to hush that nagging voice, but none of that made any difference. The longer it went on, the more unhappy I was.
I got back to creating at first just to get a break from my usual daily stress. Soon painting took over all of my free time (and my apartment), until finally I decided to take the leap of faith and follow my passion. I don’t know where this journey will take me, but I do believe that when one follows their heart, things tend to work out.
I create abstract art as it gives me absolute freedom of expression and allows me to explore and express my inner-most feelings and thoughts that are often difficult to put into words.
Art is a way for me to connect to the universal energy, and to myself. In my work I strive to work as unpredictably as I can—from working with watered-down paints and using non-traditional tools, to looking away from my hand as I make a stroke—all to surrender any control over the result and allow the art to build organically.
My art is expressive and minimalistic. Through limiting marks, colours, and including empty spaces I try to give the observer a quiet space to explore their own feelings and imagine a world behind forms.
My goal is to help others connect with their inner self and open their mind to a word behind the everyday. I believe that only through connecting to our true selves we can reach our full potential and create happy and honest lives for us and others.
